Framed relics of the 'Polygon Room' at Carlton House designed by Regency architect John Nash, A shadow-box containing a section of gilded rope or cord and a swatch of canvas. Labelled within "Rotunda Woolwich - Part of the Original Tent Designed by John Nash as The Polydon Room and First Erected in the Garden of Carlton House in the Summer of 1814". 30 cm x 22.5 cm x 6 cm. Note:- During the Peace celebrations of 1814, the ingenious and elaborate ‘Polygon Room’ was designed by John Nash as "Architect to the Office of Works". It was erected in the gardens of Carlton House as the spectacular centrepiece for the Prince Regent’s lavish entertainments - including his reception for the Visit of The Allied Sovereigns and Fête for the Duke of Wellington. Although originally conceived as a temporary structure, resembling a bell-tent, the ‘Polygon Room’ was subsequently dismantled and re-erected at Woolwich, where it became known as ‘The Rotunda’. A number of surviving elements of the original structure were removed during renovations in the 1970s.
